A few weeks ago, I was privileged enough to do a Zoom call with Glenn Robinson III for the upcoming Love Your Dubs Summit. It was him and author/coach Joe Burton, who met Robinson through a mutual friend. Burton, who just wrote a book entitled “Life Is Like Basketball”, had asked “GR3” to write the foreword for his book and, naturally, GR3 obliged. I mean, of course he did, right? Just like, of course, GR3 agreed to be part of the Summit.

The elder son of Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson (you need to check out the Purdue stats!), who was the No. 1 pick of the 1994 Draft, who stood an imposing 6’7”, 240 lbs., who was literally nicknamed “The Chosen One” before LeBron James was — well, Glenn II’s son, Glenn III, happens to be one of the kindest, soft-spoken people on the planet. Maybe we can get Big Dog to hop on next year. I’d love to know if he’s a gentle giant.
By the way, so is Burton. And it was GR3’s Instagram post of him promoting Joe’s book, out of the kindness of his heart, that turned me toward them both for the Summit.
They happened to be perfect fits for Love Your Dubs, even if their affiliations with the Warriors are somewhat indirect. Both are very humble and constantly giving a debt of gratitude to the game of basketball.
Obviously, Robinson III has a myriad of stories hanging out with our squad — he even lived in the same downtown San Francisco building as Draymond Green, so they spent a lot of time together, chopping it up.
GR3 continues to be very personable. He is currently playing in a pro league in Dubai, of all places. This after a year of experience in the Korean Basketball League. World traveler!
With all the behind-closed-doors anecdotes about one Wardell Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr and Green, GR3 and I didn’t have a lot of time to delve into his career after the stint with Golden State, (links to GRIII playlist on LetsGoWarriors YouTube channel) but I hope to come back to that, assuming he’s interested in next year’s Summit — yep, this will be an annual thing!
A funny story: I peeped his main IG post, which is a photo collage of him winning the 2017 Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. The picture on the right shows him doing the Night-Night! 😮 Yes, five years prior to Curry! 🤨
I DM’ed him about that.
His response: “Yes I started it😁🤣”
That’ll be another thing we chat about at the 2nd Annual Love Your Dubs Summit in October 2026.
