Never got around to writing that article which would have been about a month before the Draft, but we had determine pretty early on that this was a six-player Draft because Scottie Barnes is Draymond 2.0. Now, Bouknight has leap-frogged Kuminga which means Kuminga could fall into our lap which would be great, but in a Draft this loaded, it’s unlikely any of the Top Six picks get moved. I could be wrong, and if any of them DO move, it should be a “blockbuster” type deal (excluding swaps within the top six). We discussed Barnes in our Live analysis with Draft veteran Doc Martin: https://youtu.be/0IjPtId8D9o
If the Dubs keep the #14 I kind of like Ayo Dosumnu from Illinois. A 6-5 point guard who can also play SG, smart, good defense, and a well rounded skill set. A smart/crafty guy like Dosunmu is more valuable in a system like Golden State than someone with flashier skills.
Here’s the problem, and I’ve sort of been formulating this over the past few weeks. The depth chart with Oubre on it doesn’t leave room for much. Where are the wings? Wings are hard to come by cheap in the NBA. Thus far, I haven’t seen an argument yet that convinced me otherwise. I think they should draft two wings who can play 3-4 or 4-5 or 3-4-5, or at least trade the 14th pick for a veteran, or buy a second-rounder and pick a wing (not both of the latter, though, as that’s too many young guys). And this is on a team where normally you leave the 15th spot open! But I’m still formulating this. Got three days to go.
I’m gonna play contrarian/black sheep as I usually do and start saying that without having any clue what’s happening with free agency, I’d like to see two wings get drafted. My hunch is that the hurdles to jump over for wings in their rookie seasons are lower than that for any other position/role. I believe the wing spot is one where any rookie can so-called “contribute” to a championship-caliber team. Still open (for now) to people changing my mind on this, though.
I don't mind two wings being taken, but they need another big man for insurance. A guy like Ellenson with the MLE, or call up Caleb Wesson from our gleague club.
If they do go for two wings, they've got to be scorers. Guys like Moody and Bouknight fit the scoring profile or do you see guys like Wagner and Kispert more suited?
I actually count Isaiah Jackson or Kai Jones as “wings”, with the potential to guard 3 thru 5. I don’t think they’ve got to be scorers. Is or was Mikal Bridges a scorer?
um, yes. Mikal Bridges was a scorer in his last year of college at Villanova and for Phoenix last season, his accuracy was very high .667TS% at almost 13.5ppg. He was one of 3 other options aside from Booker.
Here’s another comp offered on Kai Jones by NBADraftnet: Jaxson Hayes (10 ppg NCAA, 8 ppg NBA). Honest question, aren’t we happy if we get a Jaxson Hayes out of this Draft? Asking with the notion that I could be wrong, idk.
We need to find a way to get Scottie Barnes!

14. First-round pick (guaranteed contract)
15. Paschall

I can't see the Warriors taking him with all the other talent that should be there at #14. More dreaming, I think.

Wagner is 6’9” so can pass as a wing so yes. Kispert isn’t really known for defense and having wingspan to finish breaks, so no, imo.

Giannis scored 8 ppg in EuroLeague, Kai 8 ppg for Texas, Isaiah 8 ppg for UK, do those count?

That's an eye opening stat about Giannis. Someone saw something more in him. Maybe 8 ppg is the magic number for picking a winner!? lol
agreed! someone else will be there who makes more sense I'm sure
