Warriors training camp “competition is so high right now” + Draymond-Poole have talked

Below are videos, notes and quotes from morning shootaround before the Golden State Warriors vs the Portland Trail Blazers preseason game, with just one more preseason game to go after this. Quinndary Weatherspoon took the podium. Remember, Steve Kerr is not required to speak to reporters after morning shootaround sessions, although he actually does so on the road.

Usually the Warriors have two players made available after the morning buckets but perhaps they were all just too busy or scattered this time around. Nothing really to read into and, as you’ll see in the quotes from Weatherspoon below, he gave some great team info, such as how the competition in training camp is really high.

But on that note, also recall that, a few articles ago I wrote that Les Quinones has not been told his two-way contract is in jeopardy — it’s in the article about Gui Santos getting an Exhibit 10 to play with Santa Cruz, which Santos himself confirmed on social media today.

As I alluded to in the last article, I was a tad disappointed that Jordan Poole did not take the podium. Morning shootaround is usually less-frequented by reporters. I hope for the sake of basically telling the world that the team is on the mend from the Draymond Green altercation last Wednesday, that JP takes the podium soon and does answer questions about that.

I’m told the two have talked in depth already, btw (10 on a scale of 1-10 in terms of how strong this source is). So overall, I’m satisfied with that, but it would be even better (imho) from a nitpicky public relations standpoint if Poole just takes the podium sooner than later.

The video below has some Klay Thompson practice stuff from the day before in it, thanks to clips tweeted by Jason Dumas of KRON-TV. Funny, a YouTube commenter demanded that we (well, Jason, actually) do a better job at filming — one of the reasons why I prefer not to be on-scene for those too much anymore. Let’s have more gratitude people!
