Yeah buddy, write your heart out. And tx for the boots on the ground reporting.
On Kuminga at 5. Look, I am sure most of Dub Nation would have been thrilled to get Chriss back in the fold, but FO seems to think another play making PG is a little higher on the priority list. I believe our biggest hole is in defense at POA, someone to hound the likes of Lillard, Morant, Irving, Harden & company for 12 minutes a game. Looks like GP II has the inside track, and Warriors still owe Oakland some Karma, so my fingers are crossed.
If this is the case, since Wiseman is starting off the season on the mend, we are thin at Center. Enter JFK (Jonathon Freakin' Kuminga). I absolutely believe they will slot him in early for some small ball 5 minutes, in the same way they used Paschall. With his shot "still under construction", he is going to have much more value under the basket on both ends of the floor. With Wiseman out, it's a great chance to get him some decent minutes at the least critical position in the Warriors system. I'm sure his play in Summer League, against bigs in particular, has given FO the confidence to invest in shoring up the PG rather than the Center position with the last spot on the roster.
Back to GP II, you can't tell me the Warriors don't win that game against Memphis if they would have stuck GP II on Morant for 8 minutes. GP II is a real weapon. If you have a real weapon as the 15th man on your roster, man, what a luxury and absolutely worth it. Someone like GP II may only play 1 out of 3 games on average, but he could win you 2-3 games a year, like a great baseball reliever, by coming in with the bases loaded, and shutting down the hot hand on the other team. He may not log a ton of minutes, but the minutes he does log would be very impactful because of WHO he would be guarding. Anywho ... thanks again for the great content.
Ooh, I like the “GSW owes Oakland” thing with GP2 🙌 and the “shot under construction” parallel (sort of) with EP. as for GP overall, love the guy as a teammate — tons and tons of chemistry with the Summer League team — but I haven’t come to a conclusion yet if the offensive playmaking part is good enough. However, that’s what training camp and preseason games are for, right? Good old fashioned “tryouts” and you love the competition, you know all the parties involved (enter Darren Collison? 🤔) will respect each other for this battle of the 15th spot, Mulder included. Tbh this should be one of the best training camps in the history of GSW just with all the depth, talent and competitiveness. Get your preseason tickets now! (But don’t be mad if I’m wrong lol — I’ve been humbled by the game before!)
Yeah, I think with GP II, I don't care if he scores. What matters is if he can keep the other guy from scoring. How many players in the league score but do nothing on the defensive end, yet have no problem getting on a roster. The whole point of a guy like that on the roster isn't to log regular minutes, but to come in for 8-10 minutes a game and get all up in the Irvings, Hardens, Lillards, Foxes & Morants in the league. We do not have an 'Elite Defender' at POA and I would rather have a 15th man on the roster have 1 elite skill vs. some guy who makes the team by being just average at everything. If the run into injury issues, that's what a guy like Chiozza is good for. I've had my eye on elite POA defenders in the league for years, hoping the Warriors would finally realize they could use one. But you are right, the competition can't hurt and could only make GP II and all involved better. Can't wait.
Kuminga seems to have a natural proclivity for the Point Forward position. If he can get his passing game going just enough to keep the defense off balanced, I see a lot of possibility for him. He has no fear of going to the basket and seems to thrive in that physical milieu. He has a nose for the ball and good rebounding instincts along with hops. I see him more as an open court player rather than a 5 but I could see him plugged into the 5 in certain situations, probably with Dray at the PF. In any case, I think the Dubs will have some fun toying with him and seeing what they can come with. His talent will not go to waste here.
Yes, there is still time to talk about this more, but to see him on the court with, say, Steph Klay Wiggs and Dray — I mean, Steve’s gotta at least try that once in the preseason, does he not? Just for kicks?!? 🤔👀🚨

S/O to “hotsauce” on our Discord for reminding me that it’s Steven Adams now on Memphis.
