excellent analysis of the moody situation. i think that valuing the incremental value of someone else's defense over moody's last year was a mistake, and i think it will be a mistake this year, as well. he's young, still capable of getting quicker shuffle speed, and capable of being a big scorer with confidence shown in him by kerr. ditto for jk and trace. let steph, moses, jk, day-day, and trace start and see where we are after 30 games. worst case would be middle of the pack, imo.

Well...I agree about Melton's defense being better than Moody but we have to see where Melton's offense ends up after more reps vs Moody's. As for Wiggs, so far I haven't seen any difference from the Wiggs of last years so also let's see where his offense AND his defense are after more reps. Sure his defense and rebounding also were the key to the ring over Boston, but we have not seen that Wiggs since then...at all. And to be fair, he was better in those playoffs and specifically in the Boston series than he was even during the regular season of that last championship year. So the raps on Wiggs that has become a cliche is that he is not aggressive enough on a consistent basis, and that's not aggressive enough on offense, on defense and rebounding. We have not seen peak Wiggs in either of those 3 areas for quite a while and it is fair to wait and watch to see whether that ship has sailed for good. I would even say, trade him now while you can still get a big haul for him. I would bet we could get someone who would help he team more on a consistent basis in return for Wiggs. BUT...I hope to be proven wrong. I am really hoping that the new, smooth, streamlined haircut instead of the old nappy look is a harbinger of a new streamlined, more energetic and aggressive Wiggs and that he can capture lightning in a bottle again and make use an awesome juggernaut once more. I will be surprised if hat happens, but very pleasantly surprised. But just keep in mind, that if Wiggs fizzles again this year we will have lost the chance to trade him for a difference maker. If I were the GM I would be fielding offers.

peter, i'm with you on wiggs. 2022 playoff wiggs was noticeably more than we got from him during the season and light years more than what we've seen since. another down year from him and you're dead on that we will have lost the chance to trade him for a difference maker, if we're not at that point already. i think revealing the ceiling for moody is a function of playing time, and i have been distressed about the lack of PT he has garnered the last two years, especially last year. ditto for kuminga. i thought the chris paul "experiment" was a complete waste of time and only served to delay the development of moody and podz. moody's defense now is significantly better than was klay's last year and i trust moody's shot selection way more than i trusted klay's last year--klay was too caught up in proving he still has it and wanting to help the team like he used to. admirable, but not helpful in the long run. i want to see where steph, moody, jk, day-day, and trace can take us as a starting five. at worst, they would be the middle of the pack after 30 games, with plenty of time to readjust if needed. moody may not be klay of 2015, but jk is way better than harrison barnes and trace jackson is better than bogut. let's roll with it!

I think a lot of people will be surprised. I see us near the top of the West just because of the depth we have and the quality of those players. I mean Buddy, Waters, Post...did you see him hitting Steph distance 3s?, the slimmer more agile better shooting Loon, JK, Moody, we got f....ing Slo MO who I love, TJD, Melton, GP2, hopefully Wiggs, Steph and Dray. Damn we loaded! I cannot believe we got Melton, Slo Mo and Buddy basically for Klay? I was skeptical of Dunleavy when he took over but I challenge anyone to show me a better set of trades and picks from one year to the next in recent history. He killed it. Where we have been winning all preseason is where I think we will win a LOT in the regular season and that's when the other teams 2nd unit comes in. We won't miss a beat, and unlike past years where either the started did great but the bench sucked or the bench actually did great and the starters were disappointing, I think this year both starters and bench are going to win their minutes and that's when we pull away. It's going to be a war of attrition and we are going to wear teams down with strong lineups the whole game long so when they have down minutes we go up another 5 or 10 points every time and we have much fewer down minutes. Of course barring injuries as always.

yes. love the depth, but i know what that can do to the minds of the talented players left out of the rotation. don't know much about lindy waters, for example, but i love his size at the two and he seems to be an outstanding young player. concerned about melton's back. if the dubs can step on the gas the entire game, they will definitely wear other teams down while we play 10 guys going full tilt. worried a little about defending the post against jokic and the unibrow, but i think the team is clearly improved, very much so. as you said, i would definitely be fielding offers for wiggins if i were dunleavy.

p.s.welcome to marin. i raised my kids in southern marin, had season tickets to the chris mullin era dubs (being a NYer and a major fan of mullin's since his high school days). hated don nelson as coach and gm. found steph his sophomore year at davidson, and have been all in on steph and the dubs ever since. now in palm springs. go warriors.

Actually I grew up in suburbs of Newark, NJ so we were probably both Knicks fans. I was during the Red Holzman era. Then I moved to Ft. Lauderdale just in time for the LeBron era. Then in 2010 I moved to Larkspur in Marin County, CA and my first and only in person Warriors game was the game Klay scored 37 in a quarter vs the Kings. In the videos you can see me with white hair, a beard and black fleece jacket about 10 rows behind the Warrior bench at Oracle. Then I moved to the Denver area in 2018 so got to enjoy Jokic too. Seems wherever I move the b ball team wins.
